Head Baseball Coach/
Recruiting Coordinator

pmenschner@ph.vccs.edu

Coach Menschner enters his first season as the head coach of the Patriots and fifth overall.  Coach Menschner oversaw the pitching and recruiting aspects of the game during his first four years.  His pitchers won 145 games during those four years and last year’s staff had an ERA of 4.05 with a record 430 strikeouts.  Two members of the 2010 team were drafted and the 2011 season expects to see more possible draftees.  Paul reigns from the cornhusker state, growing up in Omaha, Nebraska. After a shortened career due to injuries at Northwestern, he found himself wanting to coach. He served as an undergraduate volunteer for his alma mater before graduating with a degree in Physical Education and just recently completed his Master’s in Sports Management from American University. Coach Menschner also has several years experience in American Legion baseball both in Virginia and Nebraska and spent the 2009 and 2010 summers as an Assistant Coach with the Martinsville Mustangs of the Coastal Plain League. Coach Parker said of Coach Menschner, ”I really admire Coach Menschner’s work ethic and the value that he adds to our team.” “He has already made a huge impact on our program here at PHCC and will be a great head coach.” Coach Menschner resides in Collinsville, VA and enjoys college football when away from the diamond.

Scott Cates

Assistant Baseball Coach

Coach Cates begins his second season at PHCC after spending one season as an assistant at Greensboro College and six total seasons previously at Rockingham Community College. Scott will work directly with the catchers and other position players on player development, while also helping with base coaching duties. In addition he will oversee the offensive side of the game.  During the 2010 season, PHCC hitters set a school record for homeruns with 30 and team batting average of .333. Coach Menschner stated that, “Coach Cates is a very hard worker and does anything necessary to help each player develop in a positive manner.”  Coach Cates is a graduate of Guilford College and resides in Roxboro, NC with his wife Twyla.
