Lucas Almeida 

Head Men’s Soccer Coach


Born in Brazil, Almeida comes to Martinsville from Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Bartlesville, Oklahoma where he served as the Assistant Coach of the Varsity Men’s Soccer team and the Head Coach of the Junior Varsity program. As an assistant coach with the OKWU Eagles, he was involved with the evaluation and recruitment of student-athletes, while also playing a role in helping them gain national tournament appearances in the past two seasons. Before OKWU, Almeida was the Head Boy’s Coach at Prince of Peace High School along with other assistant coaching roles with the Quad Cities United program in Iowa and the National Premier Soccer League Tulsa Athletics program in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Soccer has been part of Almeida’s life since he was seven years old. He has held a variety of coaching positions from high school to university teams. He is no stranger to national tournaments both as a coach and player. When he played for Ashford University, he was named to First Team All-Conference for four consecutive years and player of the year in 2013. He scored 47 goals and had 27 assists in his four years in college. Other awards and recognition include Honorable Mention NAIA All-America in 2012 and 2nd Team All-America in 2013. Almeida was also part of the Troubeau All-America Team in 2014 which provided their members with tryout games against MLS, USL Pro, and NASL teams. Lastly, he played in the PDL league (Semi-Professional) in 2012 and 2013, winning in 2012 for Forest City London, located in Canada.

“Soccer is much more than just a sport to me. I live soccer daily, and it has provided me with great opportunities both professionally and personally. I want to ensure that my players can take advantage of all the opportunities soccer can afford them as well,” says Almeida.
