Men’s soccer advances, volleyball and women’s soccer seasons end

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – Over the weekend, the men’s soccer, volleyball and women’s soccer teams were in postseason play. While the men’s soccer team has advanced to the district tournament, the volleyball and women’s soccer teams saw their seasons come to an end.

The men’s soccer team defeated Spartanburg Methodist College 2-1 in the semi-finals of the Region X Conference Tournament, before falling to the #1 seed, Louisburg College, in the championship game by a score of 4-0.

With the win in the semi-finals, the Patriots earned a spot in the Southeast District Tournament, with a chance of advancing to the national tournament. The men’s soccer team will play East Florida State on November 6 in Lousiburg, NC.

Voted to the All-Region First Team for the Patriots were Graham Holley, Miguel Parra and Elias Tamburini. Osman O Sillah and Connor O’Dwyer were chosen for second team honors, while Bayron Lobo and James Lee were given honorable mention. Elias Tamburini was also nominated as an All-American after receiving the runner-up for Region Player of the Year.

The volleyball team fell to Northampton Community College in the District H Championship game 3-1, ending a historic inaugural season for the Lady Patriots. In their first season, the volleyball team captured the Region X regular season and tournament championships. The Lady Patriots finished the season with a 19-7 overall record and 18-0 conference record.

Head coach Kelly Proffitt was named the Region X Coach of the Year, while Mikayla Holland and Sidney Garrett were given All-Region First Team honors. Brooke Leach was named to the All-Region Second Team, followed by Randi Robertson and Janika Hunt, who both earned Honorable Mention nods.

The women’s soccer team saw their season end at the hands of #1 seed Cape Fear Community College by a score of 4-0 in the semi-finals of the Region X Conference Tournament. The Lady Patriots finished the season 9-10-1 overall.

Individual honors for the Lady Patriots were given to forward Christine Harris and goalkeeper Taylor Horner, who were voted to the All-Region Second Team, and Tovin Saleh, who was named the Region X Player of the Year.
