PHCC Baseball takes series at Brunswick CC

The PHCC baseball team bounced back after a slow start in their road Region X series against Brunswick CC. The first game of the series proved to be an offensive and defensive struggle for the Patriots 1798385_726222994075989_2017184050_n as they dropped the game 9-0. Brunswick pitcher Alex Ministeri pitched a 4 hit shutout, while striking out 8. Sophomores Will Hylton, Justin Kime, Patrick Love, and Ryan Dickt were the only Patriot batters to reach base, all with singles. Tyler Belcher started the game for the Patriots going 5 and 2/3 innings scattering 8 hits, while giving up 9 runs only 2 of them earned.

The Patriots wasted no time in bouncing back from the loss, jumping out to a 6-0 lead after four innings of game two of the Saturday double header. PHCC went on to with the game by a score of 7-2. Kime and freshman Stibel Aleman-Saba both added 2 RBI’s for the Patriots, Aleman-Saba’s coming on a two run homerun. Sophomore shortstop Edgar Lozano was the only Patriot who tallied more than one hit, going 2-4 with a double and RBI. On the mound for the Patriots, Levi Pruit earned the win bringing his record to 2-0. He went 5 innings, only giving up 5 hits and 2 runs, non of them being earned. Eric Scott, finished the final two innings off, not giving up any runs.

In similar fashion, the Patriots won the series deciding game on Sunday by a score of 7-2. PHCC again jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Six Patriots tallied multi-hit games, as all nine Patriots reached base at least once in the victory. Scott Spradlin started on the hill going 6 innings, giving up 1 earned run on 5 hits. Alex Brown shut the door on Brunswick CC, earning his third save of the year. Brown went 2 and 2/3 innings giving up 2 hits, zero runs, and two strike outs.

The Patriot baseball team currently sits in first place in Region X with a 5-1 record. The Patriots, who are currently 8-3, are ranked 24th in NJCAA Division II standings.
