January 22, 2020

MARTINSVILLE, VA — As PHCC’s esports team prepares for the Spring 2020 season, the ePats are looking to grow their Overwatch, Super Smash Brothers, and Rocket League teams.

Strong players interested in joining the PHCC’s Overwatch team can tryout on Friday, January 24 from 4 pm to 6 pm or Saturday, January 25 from 9 am to 12 pm. Tryouts will be held in PHCC’s Esport Arena in West Hall room 215. Players interested in joining the Super Smash Brothers or Rocket League teams should contact Athletic Director Brian Henderson at bhenderson@patrickhenry.edu

“2019 was a year of explosive growth for the esports teams at PHCC with new games and new players,” says Henderson. “This year, I look forward to watching the growth – and performance – of our teams continue to rise.”

In 2019, PHCC’s esports teams competed in two in-season tournaments and several invitational games around the region. PHCC’s League of Legends, Overwatch, and Rocket League teams played in the Shenandoah University’s invitational. The Rocket League team also traveled to Richmond Speedway for their esports invitational.  One ePatriot, Breanna Wheeling, competed against several other community colleges in the National Junior College Athletic Association’s inaugural Super Smash Brothers league.

To join the 2020 ePats roster, players must be full-time PHCC students and must maintain a 2.0 grade point average. For more information, contact Brian Henderson, PHCC Athletic Director, at bhenderson@patrickhenry.edu.
