Baseball drops to #18

April 23, 2014

The PHCC baseball team dropped out of the top ten in the national poll this week for the first time all season. They remained in the top 20, however, landing at 18. The fall in rankings was a result of losing their second consecutive weekend series this past weekend against Catawba Valley Community College, who in turn climbed back into the rankings at 15.

“I am not concerned where we are in the national polls at this point,” head coach Lucas Jones stated. “I feel like we are in a good spot to make a run in the tournament, which is what ultimately matters.”

The Patriots’ lastĀ five losses have been decided by a total of 6 runs, including an extra inning loss against Catawba Valley.

PHCC bounced back from the weekend series with a 16-2 victory over the Averett University JV team. The Patriots two leading hitters, Stibel Aleman Saba and Dylan Dombrowskas, were not in the lineup due to injury.

The team plays again today with a nine inning game against Louisburg College. The game will be played at Hooker Field and will start at 6:00.
