Golf finishes as runner-up in Region X

The inaugural Patrick Henry CC golf team finished in an impressive second place this past weekend at the Region X Division II tournament. The tournament consisted of Surry Community College, Vance1174919_627099193988370_26294113_n Granville Community College, Johnston Community College, and PHCC and was held in New Bern, NC at the Emerald Golf Course. Overall the Patriots shot a 314 the first round and a 326 during the second round. The Patriots’ 640 total was good enough for second place behind Surry Community College who shot a 598 for the tournament.

Individually, Jake Drake (Rocky Mount, VA) provided the best score for PHCC with a 154 which was good enough for fourth place. Dustin Roberts (Roanoke, VA) and Tyler Shough (Stuart, VA) both shot a 155 which was good for a tie for fifth place. The fourth team member, Cody Prillaman (Bassett, VA) rounded out the scores with a 176.

This tournament concludes the golf team’s inaugural season. The team will lose Jake Drake to graduation, but will return Roberts, Shough, and Prillaman. Coach Robert Weinerth was proud of his team in the final tournament of the season. “The boys played really well, and we are happy to be able to be bringing home the runner up finish,” he said. “Obviously the goal is to win, but now we have something to work towards for next season.”
