MARTINSVILLE, Va. – The Patrick Henry Community College golf, men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball teams were all in action this past week.

The golf team traveled to Anderson Creek Golf Club in Spring Valley, NC on Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing home a second place finish at 636 as a team, behind Sandhills Community College who shot 627.

Patriots’ Lawrence Howliston finished second overall shooting 74 and 78. Filip Ekenstrom tied for third with a 79 and 74. Damien Beasley shot 83 and 75, coming in ninth. Taylor Wall was the other scorer for Patrick Henry with an 89 and 84.

“I’m proud of how our team is improving,” said Patriot head coach Robert Weinerth. “We work every day on improving our game and I look forward to seeing how we do this year.”

Patrick Henry men’s soccer team defeated No. 17 Spartanburg Wednesday night 3-2 at home. The game went into overtime with James Lee getting the game winning goal unassisted.

Elias Tamburini had a goal assisted by Miguel Parra and Alex Sorto had a goal assisted by Ben Banaghan. Bayron Lobo had 10 saves in goal for the Patriots.

The Patriots’ men’s soccer team is now 8-4-2 overall and 7-1-1 in conference play. Patrick Henry will play at home again next Saturday, October 17, against USC Salkehatchie at 6:00 p.m.

The Patrick Henry women’s soccer team fell at home on Tuesday after the NJCAA’s No. 19 ranked Spartanburg Methodist’s Sarah Dorsett scored a goal in the final minutes and Methodist hung on in the 1-0 contest. PHCC’s Alba Cruz posted 6 saves.

The loss drops the Lady Patriots to 5-7 overall and 3-5 in Region X play. They will be back in action on Sunday, October 11, at Cape Fear Community College. The game will start at 2:00 p.m.

The weekday games were concluded with the Lady Patriots’ volleyball team falling at home to Surry Community College 3-0 (18-25, 17-25, 18-25).

The setback brings the volleyball team’s overall record to 8-6 but the Lady Patriots still own an 8-0 conference record. All of the remaining games for the Patrick Henry volleyball team are in Region X conference play, beginning with a doubleheader at Sandhills Community College on Sunday, October 11.
