The Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC) softball team lost both games of a double header Thursday at home against Florence Darlington Tech, 5-1 and 7-5. With one more homestand this weekend before the NJCAA Region X tournament begins, the Patriots need to remember how to get hot in time for the postseason.

Last year, the Patriots came into the Region X tournament as an underdog and ended up running the table to win the championship.Sophomore centerfielder, and team captain, Morgan Revels said she doesn’t see why the team wouldn’t be able to do that again.“Anything could happen, honestly,” Revels said. “Just like last season. We didn’t do so hot until the very end and then we came into the tournament and won the whole thing. So, you never know.”Revels has been a staple in the Patriots’s lineup this season. Going into Thursday’s double header she had a .418 batting average, with 8 doubles, 2 homeruns and 11 walks.Helping Revels in the lineup is pitcher and third baseman Maddie Gauldin, who played at Chatham High School.Gauldin pulls double duty for the Patriots, hitting right in the middle of their lineup while also starting games inside the circle. She’s thrown 5 complete games while also maintaining a .375 batting average.Gauldin said the biggest thing for the Patriots will be clicking together as a team at the right time.“We’re learning still and learning each other but I think we’re finally starting to play together as a team,” Gauldin said.Even with the loses Thursday, Patriots coach Kari Whitney said she isn’t discouraged, and thinks some of the issues lie in the team’s tough schedule.“They played a good game for the most part. Today was the fifth and sixth games they’ve played in a week so the pitchers are a little tired,” Whitney said. “But they all pulled through and played great I think.”The Patriots have 3 wins in the conference which tied them with Wake Tech for seventh in Region X.They’ll play a double header against Richard Bland, another Region X team, Saturday at Patrick Henry starting at 1 p.m. After that, it’s on to the postseason, where, as Revels said, “anything could happen.”“I feel good (about the postseason),” Whitney said. “I think if they just all come prepared and ready to hit the ball they’ll do great.”“If we just pull it together as a team we’ll be fine. We have potential to beat any team out here,” Revels added.
