Patriots Speak with GW Carver Elementary School Students

February 15, 2018

Martinsville, VA – PHCC student-athletes attended GW Carver Elementary School today as part of a Black History Month and Gentlemen By Choice program.  Men’s Basketball players Hafeez Anifowoshe and Que Harper,  Baseball’s Garrett Jones,  and Mens Soccer’s John Yawson spent time telling the youth about themselves and influential African-Americans who have helped them reach their goals.

Yawson, who is originally from Ghana, spoke of his love for Denzel Washington and how he listens to Dr. Eric Thomas every morning.  Jones spoke about Jackie Robinson and how his actions paved the way for him to now play the sport he loves in college.

The Pats are a supporter of GW Carver’s Gentleman By Choice program. Led by Assistant Principal Luke Boone, the program focuses on helping young men through mentorship and positive male interaction.  Coach Henderson and Mr. Boone plan to expand their reach by including the female student-athletes from PHCC to speak to their young ladies.  If you would like to volunteer, please contact Brian Henderson at bhenderson@patrickhenry.edu
