PHCC comes in 4th at Region X

The baseball team saw it’s season come to an end Sunday, against top seeded Catawba Valley in the Region X Tournament. The Patriot’s got down four runs early before battling back and tying the game at 5-5. CVCC quickly answered in the 7th scoring 3 unearned runs to take a lead that they would not relinquish. The elimination game ended the Patriot’s season with a record of 38-16 and a fourth place finish at the Region X Tournament.

The baseball team landed in the loser’s bracket after an opening round 10-2 loss against Lenoir Community College. They were able to bounce back against Wake Tech Community College on Saturday with a 11-2 win. The game ended after 7 innings because of the mercy rule. Scott Spradlin pitched all 7 innings for the Patriots. The win over the Eagles set up a match up against Surry Community College on Sunday morning. The Patriot’s offense exploded for 15 runs to take the game 15-1 in 5 innings. David Fernandez pitched the complete game and earned the victory.

Throughout the year the Patriots were ranked as high as #6 nationally. They will return a core group of players which combined with the top notch recruits that have already signed letters of intent lend for a bright future for the Patriots.
