PHCC Golf Finishes Fall Season

November 7, 2016

The last ball has dropped into the cup in competitive play this fall for the Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC) men’s golf team, and golfers are already looking to improve for next year.

“I think the numbers really speak for themselves,” said head coach Robert Weinerth.  “The guys have done a great job competing. However, we have been inconsistent and we hope to improve that heading into this spring.”

The men’s team started the season off strong by winning the Cougar Classic Invitational in early October, besting eight other teams that competed.

The men continued their success by placing fourth out of 14 teams at the Region X Fall Golf Tournament this past weekend at the River Falls Plantation Golf Course in Duncan, SC. The Patriots finished first overall for Division II teams in a tournament comprised of NJCAA Dividion I, Division II, and Division III programs. Filip Ekenstrom and Bradley Wallis led the way shooting 154 over the two days. Other Pats scores included Taylor Wall with 159, Caesar Suarez with 162, and Oscar Malsmjo with 164.

The team’s play at tournaments was a high point this fall and could be a signal of good things to come in the spring as they work all winter to keep their skills sharp despite the cold weather.

The spring season tees off on February 27 – 28, 2017 at the Sandhills Community College Invitational.
