PHCC golf wins at DCCC INVITATIONAL; Pats Hearn tops individual leaderboard

April 9, 2019

MARTINSVILLE — The battle for number one between Patrick Henry Community College and Richard Bland was even after day one of the Davidson County Community College Spring Golf Invitational.

Both the Patriots and the Statesman finished with a score of 327 in the first round, leaving the championship up for grabs.  Led by sophomore Coty Hearn, the Pats shot a 291 in the second round for a two-day total of 618 and take first place ahead of Richard Bland’s 636 combined mark.

PHCC’s Hearn took first place overall.  He finished round one with a 76 and followed that up with a 69 to claim the individual top score.

But the Patriots set themselves apart with all five golfers shooting 85 or better in the final round.  Fellow sophomore Jacob Sowers fired a 72 behind Hearn, while freshmen Solomon and Ezra Park shot a 75 each, followed by Logan Sowers with an 85.

The win marks the first team win of the season for the golfers. They return to the course April 22-24 at the Château Élan Golf Resort in Braselton, Georgia for the Region X Golf Championships.
