August 1, 2017

MARTINSVILLE, Va. — The Patrick Henry Community College men’s soccer team opens the 2017 season on the road later this month at NCAA Division III Greensboro College on Aug. 22 at 4 p.m. It will be the first of three straight road games for the Patriots to kick off the new season.

The final game of the opening trio forces the Patriots to make a trip to South Carolina to take on Region X rival Spartanburg Methodist on Aug. 30 in the conference opener.

PHCC opens its home schedule against Region X foe Cape Fear at the Smith River Sports Complex (SRSC) at 3 p.m. Sept. 5. Following a road match against USC Sumter on Sept. 9, the Patriots have a spell of three home games in one week for the only time during the season. They host Wake Tech at 6 p.m. Sept. 16, and cap the week with weekend matches against Richard Bland on Sept. 16 and USC Lancaster on Sept. 17. Both matches start at 3 p.m.

The first meeting with national power Louisburg College is schedule for 4 p.m. Oct. 6 at the SRSC. The meeting with Hurricanes presents an important weekend for the Patriots as they head to Richard Bland the following day, Oct. 7, in what could be a pivotal stretch of the conference season. Last season, PHCC dropped back to back games to RBC and Louisburg to start October.

The trip to Richard Bland is the first of four road games in a five-game stretch with a home date scheduled in the middle Oct. 16 at 3 p.m. with Spartanburg Methodist. The late-season grind is rounded out with a road match at Louisburg on Oct. 19.

The regular season concludes Oct. 21 with a Sophomore Day, Region X match against USC Salkehatchie at 6 p.m.

PHCC is coming off a 15-5 season and a 10-4 mark in Region X.
