PHCC Volleyball Wins Second Straight Region Title

MARTINSVILLE, VA – For the second consecutive year, the Patrick Henry Community College volleyball team won the NJCAA Division III Region X championship, defeating Sandhills Community College in five sets (23-25, 25-17, 26-24, 20-25, 15-10) on Saturday in Pinehurst, NC.
Randi Robertson had 17 kills and three aces, Janika Hunt had 11 kills and 13 blocks, Sydney Garrett had 51 Assists and 24 digs, and Mikayla Holland had 10 kills and 15 digs.
The team continued a weekend of honors that saw head coach Kelly Proffitt earn her second consecutive Coach of the Year award, while sophomores Janika Hunt (Martinsville, VA), Mikayla Holland (Rocky Mount, VA), and Sydney Garrett (Layfayette, IN) earned 1st Team All-Region, freshman Kaleigh Griffith (Stuart, VA) earned 2nd Team All-Region, and freshman Rachel Groves earned Honorable Mention All-Region (Clifton Forge, VA).
The team, only in its second year of existence, moves to 20-3 overall and hosts Northampton Community College (Bethlehem, PA) Saturday, October 29 at 12 noon for the District H championship. The winner of that contest heads to the NJCAA national tournament in Rochester, MN on November 11.
