MARTINSVILLE, Va. — After Patrick Henry Community College’s head Men’s Basketball Coach Kenny Wade passed due to a tragic automobile accident on September 5, the team will look to Marcus Toney to take the lead. For the past eight seasons, Toney has served as Assistant Coach for the Patriots. The college’s Athletic Director formally announced that Toney will be serving as the Interim Head Coach during the memorial service the college held in honor of Coach Wade.

“[Toney] is loyal to PHCC. He has been here with Coach Wade for many years,” Henderson said during the service. Henderson told the crowd that he believe Kenny “wanted his right hand man to take over his program.”

Toney is a Martinsville native and a graduate of Magna Vista High School and Ferrum College. While at Magna Vista, Toney was selected for All-District three times. At Ferrum, he spent three years as Team Captain and was selected for All Conference twice.

While serving as Assistance Coach under Coach Wade, twelve Patriots were named All-Conference players and one player was named All-American. This year, the Patriots have dedicated the season to Coach Wade.
