Softball sweeps USC-Sumter

The PHCC Softball team picked up a sweep against USC-Sumter winning both ends of the double header 2-1 and 10-2 respectively. In game one, Samantha Barton threw a complete game allowing 1 1622778_733905079974447_744061086_nearned run while scattering 9 hits. She struck out three Fire Ant batters. Offensively, the Patriots were sparked by Mary Skillman’s solo homerun to lead off the fourth inning. Later on that inning, Lindsey Packard doubled and scored on Kelsey Meadows’ double, plating the only other run of the game for the Patriots. Morgan Revels finished the game with a 2 for 3 effort with a double and a single.

Game two saw freshman Pitcher Haley Faulkner earn the victory throwing a complete, five inning game giving up 2 runs, only one of them earned. Mary Skillman provided all of the necessary offense for the Patriots, hitting 2 homeruns, a solo shot in the third¬†inning and a three run blast in the fourth inning.¬†Morgan Revels was 2 for 4 with three RBI’s and Samantha Cisco went 3 for 3 with two runs scored.

The sweep improves the Patriots’ record to 6-10. They will travel to Ferrum College Wednesday, March 11th with the games starting at 5 and 7. They return home on Friday, March 14th to take on Southeastern in a Region X matchup at 1 and 3.
