Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Gordon State on Friday
BARNESVILLE, GA — The Patrick & Henry Community College baseball team split a Friday doubleheader with NJCAA Division I Gordon State College at Highlander Way, dropping a high-scoring opener before responding with a dominant offensive performance in game two.
In the opening game, Patrick & Henry fell 14–10 despite collecting 14 hits and mounting a six-run rally in the fourth inning.
The Patriots struck first in the top of the opening frame when Austin MacAnanny, a sophomore outfielder from Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, launched a solo home run to right field. Gordon State responded with a six-run second inning to take control of the game.
Patrick & Henry answered in the fourth, plating six runs on five hits. Hunter DePriest, a redshirt freshman right-handed pitcher/outfielder from Alleghany, Virginia, doubled home a run, while Josh Hall Jr., a freshman infielder/right-handed pitcher from Lynchburg, Virginia, singled in two runs. Brennan Helms, a sophomore infielder from Fort Mill, South Carolina, followed with a two-run single, and MacAnanny added another RBI on a groundout.
MacAnanny finished game one 2-for-4 with four RBIs, while Brady Davenport, a sophomore catcher/infielder from Little Mountain, South Carolina, Bryson Redmond, a sophomore outfielder from Bluefield, West Virginia, Hall, Helms, DePriest, and Wyatt Griffith, a redshirt sophomore infielder from Allegany, Virginia, each recorded two hits.
Patrick & Henry bounced back emphatically in the nightcap, defeating the Division I Highlanders 17–6 behind a 12-run second inning to earn Mason Gary his first career victory as the Patriots' interim head coach.
Gordon State scored first in the opening inning, but the Patriots quickly flipped the game in the second, sending 16 batters to the plate and scoring 12 runs on seven hits. The inning was highlighted by a grand slam to right field from MacAnanny, his second home run of the day.
Patrick & Henry continued to apply pressure offensively, and Jessen Copeland, a freshman middle infielder from Waxhaw, North Carolina, delivered a three-run home run to center field in the fifth inning.
Copeland finished 2-for-2 with five RBIs and three walks, while MacAnanny, Griffith, and Copeland each collected two hits. The Patriots showed discipline at the plate throughout game two, drawing 13 walks.
On the mound, Carson Daniel, a sophomore right-handed pitcher from Thomasville, North Carolina, earned the win after allowing six runs over four innings with three strikeouts.
Patrick & Henry will continue the series Saturday with two seven-inning games against Gordon State College, scheduled for 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. in Barnesville, Georgia.
