Patriots Fall to Catawba Valley Community College in Series Finale
HICKORY, NC -- The Patrick & Henry Community College Patriots fell 10–4 to Catawba Valley Community College on Sunday afternoon in the Region 10 Division II West series finale at Henkel-Alley Field.
Catawba Valley struck first in the second inning when Brody Taylor doubled to drive in the game's opening run.
Patrick & Henry responded in the fourth inning when sophomore catcher Dylan Howell (Weston, FL) singled to center field to tie the game at 1–1.
The Red Hawks regained control in the fifth inning, scoring four runs to take a 5–1 lead. The inning featured a solo home run by Matthew Perez, followed by run-scoring doubles from Jacob Krebs and Alex Robinson.
The Patriots continued to battle offensively as sophomore Ryan Jones (Charlottesville, VA) drove in two runs from the seventh spot in the lineup, finishing 1-for-4 on the afternoon. Redshirt freshman Hunter DePriest (Alleghany, VA) led Patrick & Henry at the plate, going 2-for-4.
Catawba Valley added insurance late in the game when Pierce Bouwman connected on a grand slam to center field in the eighth inning as part of a four-RBI performance.
Sophomore Toby Wilson (Asheville, NC) started on the mound for Patrick & Henry, allowing six hits and five runs over four and two-thirds innings while striking out four. Sophomore Josh Dimpfel (Ontario, Canada) took the loss in relief.
For Catawba Valley, Tony Lopez earned the win after striking out 11 batters across six innings while allowing four hits and two runs without issuing a walk.
Patrick & Henry collected several key hits during the game, including contributions from Brady Davenport (Little Mountain, SC), who drove in a run as part of the Patriots' offensive effort.
With the series complete, the Patriots now stand at 10–8 overall and 8–4 in Region 10 Division II West play.
P&H will return to the diamond next weekend for a Region 10 home series against Southwest Virginia Community College at Hooker Field. The Patriots will host a doubleheader on Saturday, March 14 at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., with the series finale scheduled for Sunday, March 15 at 12 p.m.
