Baseball Completes Series Sweep of Southwest Virginia

MARTINSVILLE, VA -- The Patrick & Henry Community College Patriots used a dominant start to secure an 11–0 victory over the Southwest Virginia Flying Eagles on Sunday afternoon at Hooker Field, completing the three-game Region 10 Division II West series sweep.

Patrick & Henry wasted no time taking control of the game, exploding for six runs in the bottom of the first inning. Redshirt freshman Hunter DePriest (Alleghany, VA) sparked the rally with a two-run home run to left field. Freshman Preston Davis (Martinsville, VA) followed with a bases-clearing triple to bring home three runs, and sophomore Brennan Helms (Fort Mill, SC) added another run with a groundout to cap the inning.

The Patriots continued to build their lead in the second inning. Freshman Josh Hall Jr. (Lynchburg, VA) drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in a run before sophomore Brady Davenport (Little Mountain, SC) drove in another with a groundout. Sophomore Dylan Howell (Weston, FL) followed with an RBI double down the left field line, and sophomore Austin MacAnnany (Mt. Pleasant, SC) added a run with an RBI single.

Patrick & Henry added another run in the third inning when freshman Sam Newman (St. Pete, FL) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

On the mound, sophomore Toby Wilson (Asheville, NC) set the tone for the Patriots, allowing just one hit over three scoreless innings while striking out four. Sophomore Landon Finley (Kannapolis, NC) and DePriest each added scoreless relief appearances to preserve the shutout.

The Patriots recorded nine hits in the victory, with Howell and sophomore Bryson Redmond (Bluefield, WV) each collecting two. Davis drove in three runs from the eighth spot in the lineup. Patrick & Henry also played clean defense, committing no errors, with Davis leading the team with five defensive chances.

Southwest Virginia was limited to just two hits in the contest, with Graham Irvin and Christopher Steele each recording one for the Flying Eagles.

With the win, the Patriots improve to 13–8 overall and 11–4 in Region 10 Division II West play.

Patrick & Henry will now have a short break before returning to action Wednesday, March 25, when the Patriots travel to face Guilford Technical Community College in another Region 10 Division II conference matchup.
