Patriots Get Payback at Guilford Tech with 6–1 Road Win
JAMESTOWN, N.C. -- The Patrick & Henry Community College Patriots delivered a strong response in Region 10 Division II West play Wednesday afternoon, earning a 6–1 road victory over Guilford Technical Community College.
Patrick & Henry wasted no time setting the tone, jumping on the board in the second inning when freshman Jessen Copeland (Waxhaw, NC) ripped an RBI double to give the Patriots an early advantage. P&H kept the pressure on in the third, as redshirt freshman Hunter DePriest (Alleghany, VA) lined an RBI double down the left field line before sophomore Dylan Howell (Weston, FL) added another run on a groundout to extend the lead to 3–0.
From there, the Patriots controlled the pace of the game on both sides of the ball. The offense continued to apply pressure, while the pitching staff kept Guilford Tech off balance throughout the afternoon.
Copeland led the charge at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs, including a solo home run to left field in the ninth inning to put the finishing touches on the win. Sophomore Brady Davenport (Little Mountain, SC) added two hits as part of a 10-hit performance for the Patriots lineup.
On the mound, redshirt freshman Braedy Peck (Ashburn, VA) set the tone early with two hitless innings, striking out three. The Patriots' pitching staff combined for a strong outing, limiting Guilford Tech to just one run on four hits.
Defensively, Patrick & Henry remained sharp, committing no errors in the contest.
With the win, the Patriots improve to 15–11 overall and 13-7 in Region 10 Division II West play.
Due to the Easter weekend schedule, Patrick & Henry will return to action on the road at Louisburg College, playing a doubleheader on Friday followed by a single nine-inning game on Saturday.
