Indoor Track Shows Growth at Roanoke College Meet

SALEM, VA -- The Patrick & Henry Community College men's and women's indoor track teams competed Saturday, February 14 at the Joe LaRocco Invitational, hosted by Roanoke College.

The Patriots posted multiple personal records and added to the program's all-time performance list in several events.

In the 60-meter dash, Mason Gamez-Turpin recorded a personal best time of 8.09 seconds, finishing 54th overall. His performance now ranks 8th all-time in P&HCC program history.

Tyress Wiltz had a strong showing in two events. In the 1600-meter run, Wiltz finished 49th overall with a time of 5:09.55, which moves him to 2nd all-time at P&HCC in the event. He later returned to the track in the 400-meter dash, clocking a 1:03.41 to finish 26th overall, good for 6th all-time in program history.

On the women's side, Brittany Cruz delivered a standout performance in the 1600-meter run, finishing 29th overall with a time of 6:53.80. Her mark ranks 2nd all-time in P&HCC history for the event.

Chase Smith also competed in the 400-meter dash, finishing 27th overall with a time of 1:06.02.

Head Coach Underwood was encouraged by the team's continued development. "We are seeing steady growth with this group and are expecting bigger things this spring," said Underwood.

The Patriots will return to action March 14, 2026 at the Concord Distance Carnival hosted by Concord University as they transition into the outdoor track and field season.
