Track & Field Posts Strong Marks at Wildcat Invitational
LYNCHBURG, VA –- The Patrick & Henry Community College track & field team continued its spring season with a strong showing at the Wildcat Invitational on April 18, highlighted by multiple program top-10 performances and nationally ranked NJCAA Division III marks.
Mason Gamez-Turpin led the Patriots with an impressive performance in the 400 meters, finishing in 1:02.65. The mark ranks seventh all-time in program history and currently stands as the No. 97 performance in NJCAA Division III this season.
Gamez-Turpin also posted a time of 25.69 in the 200 meters, moving into ninth place on the P&HCC all-time list.
Chase Smith turned in a strong day as well, recording a time of 2:33.08 in the 800 meters, which currently ranks No. 57 nationally in NJCAA Division III. Smith also added a 28.00 finish in the 200 meters, good for 10th all-time in program history.
Head coach Brandy Arnold praised the continued progress of the program.
"We continue to see our student-athletes improve each week, and it is exciting to watch them compete with confidence," Arnold said. "Our team has stayed committed to the process, and these performances are a reflection of the work they are putting in every day."
The Patriots continue to build momentum late in the outdoor season as they prepare for their final meets of the spring. Patrick & Henry will next compete at the Martinsville 5K on May 2 at the Dick & Willie Trail before traveling to the Liberty Twilight Invitational on May 5.
