National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Honors Pair of Patriots
MARTINSVILLE, VA -- Patrick & Henry Community College Softball continues to make its mark nationally as sophomores Hannah Haynes and Lily Carola have earned NJCAA Division III Player and Pitcher of the Week honors following a dominant stretch of performances on February 17–18.
The week began on the road February 17 at Richard Bland College, where the Patriots split a doubleheader. In Game 1, Haynes went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in the 8–4 contest . She followed that performance with a huge Game 2 effort, going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI to power the Patriots to a 6–3 victory . Across the twin bill, Haynes totaled four hits, four RBI, and a home run, setting the tone for what would become a nationally recognized week at the plate.
Carola also delivered key innings against Richard Bland. In Game 2, she threw 4.2 innings, allowing just two runs (one earned) while striking out eight . She added two scoreless relief innings in Game 1, recording two strikeouts . Her composure in the circle helped stabilize the Patriots during the road split.
The Patriots returned home February 18 and completed a sweep of Southwest Virginia Community College. Haynes continued her offensive surge in the 11–0 victory, recording two hits including a double and a triple . She capped the week batting .600 with four RBI, seven runs scored, one home run, one triple, and two stolen bases — numbers that earned her NJCAA Division III Player of the Week honors. On the season, Haynes is batting .367 with a .406 on-base percentage and a .700 slugging percentage, along with six stolen bases.
Carola was equally dominant at home. In Game 1 against Southwest Virginia, she fired five innings of one-hit shutout softball with 10 strikeouts, facing just 16 batters . For the week, Carola logged 11.2 innings with 20 strikeouts and just one earned run allowed, earning NJCAA Division III Pitcher of the Week recognition. She currently owns 39 strikeouts in 34.2 innings pitched this season.
"I'm humble and honored for the title of Player of the Week," Haynes said. "My team has been putting in the work, and it shows how hard we push each other."
"I am honored to have received this award," Carola added. "After being down these past few weeks, my team and I put in hard work to show what we are about. I wouldn't have won this award without my team behind me. As much as it is an honor for me, it's an honor for them too."
Patrick & Henry will look to carry that momentum into a busy Friday as the Patriots host two matchups as part of the JUCO Jamboree in Hickory, North Carolina. P&HCC is scheduled to face CCBC Catonsville at 1:00 PM before taking on the College of Southern Maryland at 3:00 PM. Friday's games mark another opportunity for the Patriots to build on their early-season success on a neutral-site stage.
The national recognition highlights not only individual excellence but the continued growth and competitiveness of the Patriots softball program as it builds early-season momentum.
