Lady Patriots Fall at Monroe to Open New York Trip
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The P&HCC women's basketball team opened its New York road trip Saturday afternoon with a 77–44 loss to Monroe Community College.
The Lady Patriots competed early, trailing just 16–12 after the first quarter. Monroe extended its lead in the second period and carried a 41–23 advantage into halftime before pulling away in the second half.
Freshman Mikayla Pittman (Orlando, FL) led P&HCC with 12 points while adding four assists and two steals. Freshman Amari Hairston (Martinsville, VA) contributed 11 points off the bench, and sophomore Mya Mewborn (Virginia Beach, VA) finished with nine points.
Freshman Kayla Drumheller (Charlottesville, VA) was strong on the boards, recording 13 rebounds — including eight offensive boards — and adding nine points.
As a team, P&HCC shot 20.6% from the field (14-68) and 12.5% from three-point range (2-16). The Lady Patriots converted 14-of-22 free throws and totaled 38 rebounds. Defensively, P&HCC forced 22 turnovers and turned them into 17 points.
Monroe shot 46.3% from the floor and held a 46–22 advantage in points in the paint, while adding 22 assists and 32 bench points.
The Lady Patriots will conclude their New York trip tomorrow with a 2:00 p.m. matchup against Genesee Community College before returning home.
P&HCC will then resume Region 10 play on February 22 with a 2:00 p.m. road contest at Tidewater Community College.
