Pittman’s 28 Leads Lady Patriots to 59-57 Road Win at Genesee
BATAVIA, NY -- The Patrick & Henry Community College women's basketball team closed out its New York road trip with a hard-fought 59-57 victory over Genesee Community College on Sunday afternoon at Zambito Gymnasium.
The Lady Patriots jumped out early, leading 21-12 after the first quarter and carrying a 33-24 advantage into halftime. Genesee responded with a 17-point third quarter to tighten the contest, but P&HCC held firm down the stretch to secure the two-point road win.
Freshman guard Mikayla Pittman (Orlando, FL) delivered a standout performance, pouring in a game-high 28 points. Pittman knocked down four three-pointers and went 10-of-13 from the free throw line while playing all 40 minutes.
Freshman center Kayla Drumheller (Charlottesville, VA) added 20 points and nine rebounds, providing a strong inside presence on both ends of the floor.
Sierra Bush (Virginia Beach, VA) recorded a team-high 11 rebounds, helping P&HCC control the glass with a 34-30 rebounding advantage.
The Lady Patriots made their impact in key areas:
-
20 points off turnovers
-
14 second-chance points
-
24 points in the paint
P&HCC shot 73.9% from the free throw line (17-of-23), including key conversions late in the fourth quarter.
Genesee was led by Sydney Reilly's 18 points, but the Lady Patriots' defensive pressure forced 21 turnovers and limited the Cougars to 57 total points.
Head Coach Melvin Patterson credited his team's defensive focus and growing chemistry.
"Our defense is becoming our identity, and it's showing," Patterson said. "Offensively, the ball is moving, everyone is getting opportunities, and that balance makes us hard to defend. I've always believed it's not about how you start — it's about playing your best basketball at the right time. We're starting to do that."
With the win, Patrick & Henry completes its New York trip on a high note and builds momentum heading back into Region 10 play.
The Lady Patriots will return to conference action on the road February 22 at Tidewater Community College, with tipoff set for 2:00 p.m.
