Patriots Finish Regular Season Strong with 63–51 Victory Over Tidewater
PORSTMOUTH, VA -- The Patrick & Henry Community College women's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 63–51 win over Tidewater Community College at Churchland High School. The Patriots finish the regular season 5–10 overall and a perfect 2–0 in conference play, building momentum at the right time as they prepare for postseason action.
Patrick & Henry leaned on a balanced offensive effort to secure the come-from-behind victory. Freshman guard Mikayla Pittman (Orlando, FL) led all scorers with 19 points, while freshman center Kayla Drumheller (Charlottesville, VA) added 16 points in the paint. Sophomore guard Mya Mewborn (Virginia Beach, VA) contributed 12 points, and freshman guard Amari Hairston (Martinsville, VA) and freshman center Sierra Bush (Virginia Beach, VA) each finished with eight points. The Patriots rallied together defensively in critical stretches, coming up with key stops and executing down the stretch to seal the win.
Head Coach Melvin Patterson reflected on the team's growth following the final regular season contest.
"As a coach, all you can ask is that your team finishes better than it started — and this group has done exactly that," Patterson said. "I am extremely proud of how they have shown up and committed themselves to becoming not only better players, but more importantly, better young women. Tonight, we played as ONE. We rallied together in moments of adversity, got key stops when it mattered most, and executed down the stretch to pull out a come-from-behind win. This group could have folded after the ups and downs of the season, but instead they continued to grow and are playing some really good basketball at the right time. I am beyond proud of our growth, our development, and the way we finished the regular season with a win. Now back to the lab to fine-tune and prepare for the tournament."
With the regular season complete, the Patriots now turn their focus to tournament preparation, aiming to carry their late-season momentum into the postseason.
