Swept Away

Another chilly day fell over Hooker Field to finish up the series against New River Community College and Patrick Henry Community College. Coming into the final home game of the year, the Patriots looked to sweep the Muskies after beating them twice on Saturday. They have definitely been finding some rhythm as of late, and proved that with a very short outing.

Nicolas Keister came around to score in the bottom of the 1st inning after he led off with a double. The Muskies had a rare threat with 2 straight singles to begin the 2nd inning, but any hope to score off the Pats was vanquished after a double play ended it. This proved to be the most success New River would have against PH, as they were not ready for the bombardment the Patriots would bring in the bottom half of the 2nd.

Patrick Henry loaded the bases with 2 outs and Nicolas Keister on deck. Unfortunately, he wasn’t given the opportunity to roll the pole after getting struck with a hanging curveball. He did bring home one of the runs, though. Two more runs scored after a fielding error and a walk, then the man with bad intent came up to the plate, Stibel Aleman Saba. He smoked a triple that split the right center field gap, racking up three more runs to the already out of hand lead. The damage ended at 8-0 after 2 innings for the Patriots.

The Muskies simply could never gain any mojo. Eager for something to go right, they singled with one out in the 3rd. But the Patriots stopped any possible threat with a 5-4-3 double play to end the inning. The Patriots were still hungry for more in the bottom of the third. Daymon Totherow doubled home a run, with 2 more runs being scored on a fielding error and a pass ball. The Patriots held an 11-0 lead after 3 innings.

The Region X mercy rule applied to end this game, as it did yesterday. 11-0 was the final tally, with the game ending in 5th inning.

PHCC will travel to Southeastern Community College where they will look to extend their four game winning streak. These games will be played on May 2nd and May 3rd to end the regular season.
