Patriots Take Both Games of Saturday Doubleheader Against Louisburg

MARTINSVILLE, VA — The Patrick & Henry Community College baseball team earned two Region 10 Division II conference victories Saturday at Hooker Field, defeating Louisburg College 12-6 in game one before securing a 5-4 walk-off win in game two of the home-opening doubleheader.

With the sweep of Saturday's games, the Patriots improve to 6-4 overall and 5-0 in conference play.

In game one, Patrick & Henry responded quickly after Louisburg struck first with a two-run home run in the opening inning. The Patriots answered in the bottom half as Hunter DePriest (RS-Fr., Alleghany, Va.) helped ignite the rally, a wild pitch brought in a run, and Josh Hall Jr. (Fr., Lynchburg, Va.) added a sacrifice fly to put P&HCC in front.

The Patriots broke the game open in the second inning, plating five runs on three hits. Bryson Redmond (So., Bluefield, W.Va.) delivered an RBI single before an error allowed another run to score. DePriest capped the inning with a three-run home run to left field, extending the lead and setting the tone for the afternoon.

Brody Owens (So., Charlotte, N.C.) earned the start on the mound, working 5.2 innings and striking out six. Landon Finley (So., Kannapolis, N.C.) and Josh Dimpfel (RS-So., Ontario, Canada) combined in relief to secure the 12-6 victory. Austin MacAnanny (So., Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) paced the offense with three hits, while Redmond and Hall Jr. each recorded multiple hits as the Patriots totaled 11 in the opener.

Game two provided late-inning drama. Patrick & Henry struck first in the second inning when Evan Androvett (So., Dallas, Texas) grounded out to score the game's opening run. The Patriots carried a 3-0 advantage into the seventh before Louisburg rallied for four runs to take a 4-3 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, Dylan Howell (So., Weston, Fla.) led off with a single to spark the comeback. After the Patriots kept the inning alive, Redmond delivered the decisive swing, lining a single to score two runs and give P&HCC the 5-4 walk-off victory.

Carson Daniel (So., Thomasville, N.C.) started game two and tossed four strong innings, allowing just one hit and no runs while striking out two. DePriest appeared in relief to keep the Patriots within striking distance late. Redmond and DePriest each collected two hits in the nightcap, while Howell, Hall Jr., and Androvett each drove in a run. MacAnanny added two stolen bases and handled seven defensive chances as the Patriots played error-free baseball.

Interim Head Coach Mason Gary credited his team's approach across both contests.

"I'm proud of the way we competed from the first pitch of game one to the final swing in game two," Gary said. "We showed we can respond when we get punched early and that we can handle pressure late. That's what conference baseball is about."

Due to expected rain in the Martinsville area, the series finale has been moved to Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Hooker Field. The Patriots will look to complete the three-game series and continue their strong start in Region 10 Division II play.
