Patriots Take Two from Southwest Virginia in Region 10 Doubleheader

MARTINSVILLE, VA -- The Patrick & Henry Community College Patriots delivered an offensive surge Saturday afternoon at Hooker Field, sweeping a Region 10 Division II West doubleheader against the Southwest Virginia Flying Eagles, winning 13–3 in the opener and 17–7 in game two.

Southwest Virginia struck first in the opening game when Ronnie Hall launched a solo home run to left field in the top of the first inning. Patrick & Henry answered in the second inning when sophomore Evan Androvett (Dallas, TX) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to tie the game.

The Flying Eagles regained the lead in the third inning when Ethan Rector scored on a fly out and Graham Irvin added a sacrifice fly. The Patriots quickly responded in the fourth inning with a four-run rally. Sophomore Dylan Howell (Weston, FL) singled to center field to drive in a run before sophomore Austin MacAnnany (Mt. Pleasant, SC) followed with an RBI single down the right field line. Sophomore Ryan Jones (Charlottesville, VA) added a sacrifice fly and sophomore Brennan Helms (Fort Mill, SC) delivered an RBI single to give P&H the lead.

Patrick & Henry broke the game open in the fifth inning with five more runs. MacAnnany delivered a two-run triple, Jones followed with an RBI single, and sophomore Bryson Redmond (Bluefield, WV) brought home two runs with a sacrifice fly.

MacAnnany paced the Patriots with a perfect 4-for-4 performance, collecting a triple, double, and two singles. Patrick & Henry finished with 11 hits in the opener while Jones drove in three runs and Howell added two hits. On the mound, sophomore Brody Owens (Charlotte, NC) started the game and struck out four over two innings, while redshirt freshman Ryan Torres (Cape Coral, FL) dominated in relief with eight strikeouts across three scoreless innings.

The Patriots carried that momentum into game two, jumping out to an early lead in the first inning when MacAnnany singled to score a run before redshirt freshman Hunter DePriest (Alleghany, VA) launched a two-run home run to center field.

Patrick & Henry continued the offensive pressure in the second inning, scoring five runs on six hits. Freshman Gabe Haught (Tampa, FL) doubled to drive in a run, Helms added an RBI single, Redmond brought home a run on a groundout, and freshman Jessen Copeland (Waxhaw, NC) capped the inning with a two-run double.

DePriest delivered another big swing in the sixth inning, blasting his second home run of the game, a three-run shot to left field as part of a five-run frame that helped secure the 17–7 victory. DePriest finished the game with two home runs and five RBIs.

Patrick & Henry totaled 13 hits in the nightcap, with Helms, MacAnnany, and freshman Josh Hall Jr. (Lynchburg, VA) each collecting multiple hits. The Patriots also showed patience at the plate with seven walks and remained aggressive on the basepaths, stealing six bases, including multiple steals from Redmond and MacAnnany.

Sophomore Carson Daniel (Thomasville, NC) started game two for the Patriots and allowed just one run over three innings, while redshirt freshman Braedy Peck (Ashburn, VA) added a scoreless inning in relief.

Patrick & Henry and the Flying Eagles will conclude the three-game Region 10 series Sunday at 12 p.m. at Hooker Field.
