Patriots Close Regular Season with Narrow Road Loss at Tidewater
PORTSMOUTH, VA – The Patrick & Henry Community College men's basketball team wrapped up its regular season Wednesday night with a 78-73 loss to Tidewater Community College in an NJCAA Region 10 Division III conference matchup played at Churchland High School.
The Patriots found themselves playing from behind for much of the evening, as Tidewater brought strong energy from the opening tip. Despite multiple late pushes, P&HCC was unable to close the gap in the final minutes.
Freshman guard Wes Gobble (Charlottesville, Va.) led the Patriots with 17 points. Sophomore guard Jayse Barrett (Clayton, N.C.) and freshman guard Ramael Warren Jr. (Brooklyn, N.Y.) each added 12 points, while freshman guard Braelyn Gray (Winston-Salem, N.C.) chipped in 12 in a balanced scoring effort.
Head Coach Dan Milloy was candid following the contest.
"We came out flat tonight. We didn't play with the energy and effort we needed, and Tidewater did. They played great basketball," Milloy said. "If we want to make a run in the tournament, we have to get this game out of our system. It won't be easy."
With the regular season now complete, the Patriots shift their focus to postseason play. The NJCAA Region 10 Division III Tournament begins February 20 and will be hosted by Sandhills Community College. P&HCC will look to regroup and prepare for the opportunity to compete for a region championship.
